Our Mission

Founded in 2012 and based in Costa Rica, the Foundation for Alternative Energy (ALTENER) has as its mission to promote and support the development of alternative energy sources that are environmentally friendly. Established as a charitable extension of the company Purasol (www.purasol.co.cr), foundation ALTENER is a registered nonprofit organization working towards a shift to renewable energy.

Our Vision

Healthy environment
Taking care of our planet is our responsibility. Energy is all around us, and we have gotten so used to it that we sometimes forget we are unnecessarily harming the environment and will eventually run out of fossil fuels. Renewable energy is the answer to some ofour concerns about the future. Developing and spreading alternative energy solutions which are environmentally friendly, are ways to a healthier life.

Social responsibility
We believe in social responsibility and we focus our actions on local communities. Let's start spreading the knowledge about alternative energy, starting from our own neighborhood! Education on renewable energy is one of our goals.

Innovative technologies should serve the society and work for enhancing social equality. We want to make renewable energy available for community initiatives, thereby making renewable energy also accessible for the socially underprivileged.

Innovative thinking
Innovative solutions can and should go hand in hand with sustainable living. At the point where we now finally have technologies to access almost unlimited sources of renewable energy available (such as hydro, solar, wind and geothermal energy), we should profit from this abundance of energy. Foundation ALTENER wants to create awareness and promote renewable energy to wisely use nature's resources.

Among renewable energy sources we especially focus on solar energy. Why solar? Foundation ALTENER promotes sustainable living through renewable energy for everyone. This means that we are looking for the most egalitarian energy sources. Solar energy gains from the biggest and the most consistent flow of energy, available almost everywhere: the sun. Other characteristics like the flexible size of solar installation, minimal maintenance and long lasting solutions, make solar energy the most accessible and affordable source for almost everyone accustomed to their needs.
